Why film used to yellow
Early PPF was aromatic urethane. UV breaks the aromatic bonds and the film turns amber, fastest on white and silver cars where it shows most. Cheap "PPF" today is often PVC with the same problem.
Why current film does not
Aliphatic polyurethane with a UV-stable topcoat does not yellow. Ceramic Pro Urban and Ceramic Pro PPF carry written manufacturer warranties against yellowing, cracking and delamination: 10 years on Urban, lifetime on Ceramic Pro PPF. Ask any other brand for the same document in writing before you pay.
What looks like yellowing but is not
- Dirt under an unwrapped edge. A dark line at the edge of a panel. That is an install issue.
- Contamination on top of the film. Road film, sap and sprinkler minerals build a tint over years without washing. A decontamination wash removes it.
- Adhesive discoloration on repainted panels. Non-factory paint can react with any film. We check for it before installing.
How to keep it clear
A ceramic coating over the film blocks UV and stops contamination from bonding. We include a $549 Ceramic Pro coating with every Full Front and Full Body. Wash with pH-neutral soap and skip the brush washes.
