How much does it cost to get windshield protection film?

Windshield protection film starts at $799 installed. It is an optically clear film on the outside of the glass that absorbs the impact of road debris, so the windshield, and the cameras and sensors built into it, stay intact.

Why windshields are worth protecting now

A windshield used to be glass. Now it carries the forward camera, rain sensors, heating elements and the mounting for driver-assist systems, and replacing it means recalibrating all of them. Insurance covers some of it; the deductible, the recalibration and the week without the car are yours.

What the film does

Cost and lifespan

From $799 installed, quoted by windshield size and curvature. Expect a few years of life before the film has taken enough hits to be replaced; it is a sacrificial layer by design and it costs a fraction of the glass it protects.

Film versus tint versus coating

Protection film goes on the outside and stops impacts. Tint goes on the inside and rejects heat. Ceramic Pro Glass is a coating that makes rain bead. They do different jobs and stack.

What does VLT mean for window tint?
VLT is visible light transmission: the percentage of light that gets through the glass and film together. 35% VLT lets 35% of light through; 5% is the darkest "limo" tint. It is the number that decides how dark the tint looks and whether it is legal on each window. Full answer →
How long does window tint last?
Good ceramic tint lasts the life of the car. Dyed film fades to purple and bubbles in a few Florida summers. The difference is the film, then the install. Full answer →
Ceramic tint vs regular tint: what is the difference?
Regular (dyed) tint blocks light. Ceramic tint blocks heat. Both can be the same darkness; only one keeps the cabin cool at a stoplight in August, and only one still looks the same five years later. Full answer →
How do you take care of new window tint?
Leave the windows up for three to five days, expect a little haze while the film cures, and never use an ammonia cleaner on it. That is most of it. Full answer →
