Is it worth getting ceramic coating from a dealership?

Rarely. Dealer coatings are usually applied fast in a service lane, without paint correction, and sold in the finance office at a specialist price. The same money at a Ceramic Pro Elite Dealer buys corrected paint, a controlled bay and a manufacturer warranty.

What you usually get

A sealant or entry-level coating applied over the paint as it came off the truck, in an hour or two, by the detail lane. No decontamination, no correction under lights, no controlled cure. A warranty that covers certain stains and requires paid annual "reapplication". A price between $700 and $2,000, financed over the loan.

Why that is the wrong order

Dealer lots wash cars with brushes. A new car on a lot has swirls before it has an owner. A coating applied over them seals them in. Correction first, coating second, is the whole craft; the dealer package skips the first half.

If the dealer insists

It is optional and it is not a loan condition. Decline it, take delivery, and bring the car in within the first two weeks.

What is the best ceramic coating?
Ceramic Pro ION, hands down. Nano-ceramic coatings have become the standard for protecting paint, and Ceramic Pro ION takes it further with ion-exchange technology. It's the first multi-layer ceramic coating built as a two-component system: the base coat bonds permanently to your paint, while the top coat exchanges ions with the base to create a coating that's harder, thicker and more durable than traditional layered coatings. For durability, stain resistance and a hydrophobic effect that lasts, ION stands above the rest. Full answer →
What is the downside of ceramic coating?
It does not stop rock chips, it locks in whatever is under it, and it still needs washing. Those are the real downsides. Cost is the fourth: a professional coating on corrected paint costs more than wax because the two days of prep are most of the job. Full answer →
What destroys ceramic coating?
Abrasion and harsh chemistry. Automatic brush washes, aggressive polishing, strong degreasers, wheel acids and fallout removers left to dwell all wear a coating down. Left-on contamination does the rest: bird droppings, love bugs and sprinkler minerals baked in the sun. Full answer →
Is ceramic coating even worth it?
For a car that is washed at home or touchless, parked outside at least some of the time, and kept more than a year: yes. It replaces years of waxing, stops the sun and the love bugs from etching, and makes every wash a rinse. For a car that goes through brush washes weekly, no product is worth it. Full answer →
