Why it works so well on a coating
A coated surface does not let dirt key in. Water at pressure lifts most of it without a mitt ever touching the paint, which means no wash marring. For a coated car, the pressure washer and a foam cannon do most of the work.
The rules
- Fan tip, 25 or 40 degrees. Never a zero-degree pencil jet.
- Twelve inches or more from the paint; more on plastics and trim.
- Electric or small gas units at consumer pressure are fine; a commercial unit should be dialed down.
- Do not aim along the edge of any paint protection film or wrap.
- Rinse top-down, foam, let it dwell a minute, rinse again.
Then
A soft mitt on the lower panels if anything is left, rinse, dry with a blower or plush towel. On a coated car the whole thing is ten to fifteen minutes.
What not to do
No degreasers or acidic wheel cleaners on paint. No dwell time for iron remover in the sun. And no brush washes in between; they undo what the coating does.
